Smashing Pumpkins to Release Double Album in 2020

According to Smashing Pumpkins’ frontman, Billy Corgan, the band is busy recording a double album that will be released in 2020.

The bands last album, ‘Shiny and Oh So Bright,’ was released in 2018 and saw the return of founding member, James Iha. The only original member now missing from the reunited Smashing Pumpkins’ lineup is bassist, D’arcy Wretzky. Wretzky’s relationship with Corgan has seriously deteriorated and she has made public accusations against him. According to Wretzky, Corgan is manipulative and has a “shitty voice”. It is unlikely, therefore, that she will ever rejoin the band.

Yet despite Wretzky’s absence, The Smashing Pumpkins have continued to tour and record since reforming in 2005. The reception from fans has, however, been lukewarm.

According to Corgan, the new album is the first since the reunion that is really a “pumpkins record.” He went on to say, “I’m excited about this, because we’re kind of back in the lane of taking a risk, and trying to bring something new to the table, as opposed to just aping what we’re known for.”

Perhaps finally fans will get the Pumpkins reunion record they have been waiting for.

A release date is yet to be announced, but Corgan confirmed the band is currently in Nashville working on the album and they have 21 songs ready to go.
